4 years ago, I was pleased and excited to announce we had secured the services of Sean De Kretser as our captain/coach on a 3-year contract, this also included 4 years prior of me calling him every year at the same time to discuss if he was ready for a challenge.

Each one of those discussion lasted 1hr talking about Norwood and the need for an entire culture shift of the club.

When Sean finally accepted, my excitement wasn’t just about his cricket ability it was about him as a person and the qualities I knew he was going to bring to the club, his ability to shape a clubs culture and grow leaders within a club was as highly regarded as his cricket ability if not more.

While the journey started out reasonably rocky with the loss of our best player to Premier Cricket and a struggle to shift the culture, he did not waiver or give up.

He had a plan and stuck to it, this included having a succession plan for someone to take over from him at the end of his contract, and with this we were able to secure Sean for a 4th year.

What Sean has been able to achieve and do for our club I personally can not thank him enough, we have an excellent leadership team and program now in place, we have a culture admired by many clubs in the RDCA, played finals in all but his first season and have a junior program that is now the destination club for many kids given the growth in our juniors playing high grade senior cricket for our club and beyond.

We also have a ready-made transition in place which will be announced in the coming days, the club could not be in a better place.

While as I am, I’m sure we will all be sad to see Sean leave, take solace in the fact he is going home to where it all began for him and finish his career at his home club Heatherdale.

Sean Norwood Cricket Club will be forever imprinted with your work ethic, guidance, humility and passion to be the best we can.

We wish Yourself, Lynn & Kai all the best for the future, and remember you will always be part of the Norwood Family.
Please join me in thanking Sean for all he has done for our club and wish him all the best in his return home.

The new coaching structure will be announced in the coming days.
